AverPoint Inc. (“AverPoint,” “we” or “us”) values your privacy. In this Privacy Policy (“Policy”), we describe how we collect, use, and disclose information that we obtain about users of our Android App (the “App”) and the services available through our App (collectively, the “Services”), and how we use and disclose that information.
By using the App, or using any of our Services, you agree that your personal information will be handled as described in this Policy. Your use of our App or Services, and any dispute over privacy, is subject to this Policy and our Terms of Service (www.averpoint.com/termsofservice), including its applicable limitations on damages and the resolution of disputes. The AverPoint Terms of Service are incorporated by reference into this Policy.
The Information We Collect About You
We collect information about you directly from you and from third parties, as well as automatically through your use of our App or Services.
Information We Collect Directly From You. The information we collect from you depends on how you use the App. To register you must provide your email and create a password. During your initial set up, we also ask you for the following: your first name, last name, home city, current city, favorite news sources, reading goals, and a profile picture. You can choose not to provide this information and still activate your account. In your Profile page, you can also add additional information such as your location, biographical description, work experience, education, interests, and topics of expertise. We may change the specific information we collect, but you will know we are collecting it because a form will ask you for the information.
Information We Collect Automatically. We may automatically collect the following information about your use of our App or Services through cookies, web beacons, and other technologies: your phone type; links you click; your IP address; how you move through the App and the length of time you visit our App and or use our Services; and the referring URL, or the webpage that led you to our App. If you open our in-app browser, we will collect the following: the articles you click. We may combine this information with other information that we have collected about you, including, where applicable, your user name, name, and other personal information. Please see the section “Cookies and Other Tracking Mechanisms” below for more information.
In particular, we save information about the news media sites you visit through our in-app links and the articles you share to this app. We first check if you have enabled this permission in your AverPoint settings. We then check if the site is an approved news source. If both these conditions are met, we log the article you read.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information, including your personal information, for the following purposes:
How We Share Your Information
We may share your information, including personal information, as follows:
Our Use of Cookies and Other Tracking Mechanisms
Our native app includes an in-app browser that allows you to view recommended articles without leaving our app. This in-app browser includes cookies and local storage features that you have set in your browser’s main settings. For example, if your browser settings allow cross-site tracking, then the in-app browser will allow cross-site tracking. Another example is when you load an article in the in-app browser and turn on our Credibility Layer. In this case, we will store your authentication credentials in local storage so you only need to authenticate once.
If you use our other Services, we use cookies and local storage to make your experience more seamless. For example, if you have our mobile browser extension, your authentication information is saved in local storage. If you then use the native App’s in-app browser to read an article, we will use local storage to persist your authentication.
We and our third party service providers use tracking mechanisms to track information about your use of our App or Services. We may combine this information with other personal information we collect from you (and our third party service providers may do so on our behalf). This allows us to know what tabs and features you use, as well as diagnose bugs or slow performance.
Third Party Analytics. We use automated devices and applications, such as Google Analytics to evaluate usage of our App, Website, and Services. We also may use other analytic means to evaluate our Services. We use these tools to help us improve our Services, performance and user experiences. These entities may use cookies and other tracking technologies to perform their services. We do not share your personal information with these third parties.
Do-Not-Track. Currently, our systems do not recognize browser “do-not-track” requests. You may, however, disable certain tracking as discussed in this section (e.g., by disabling cookies).
User Generated Content
We invite you to post content on our Site, including your articles, comments, pictures, and any other information that you would like to be available on our Site. Your Activity and Research information can be made private by toggling the lock icon. If your settings are public, the information you post will be available to all visitors to our Site. If you post your own content on our Site or Services, your posting may become public and AverPoint cannot prevent such information from being used in a manner that may violate this Policy, the law, or your personal privacy.
Third-Party Links
Our Site and Services may contain links to third-party websites. Any access to and use of such linked websites is not governed by this Policy, but instead is governed by the privacy policies of those third party websites. We are not responsible for the information practices of such third party websites.
Security of My Personal Information
We have implemented safeguards to protect the information we collect from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. We use industry leading identity management, database, and web services to store your information.
Please be aware that despite our best efforts, no data security measures can guarantee 100% security. You should take steps to protect against unauthorized access to your password, phone, and computer by, among other things, signing off after using a shared computer, choosing a robust password that nobody else knows or can easily guess, and keeping your log-in and password private.
Access To My Personal Information
You may modify personal information that you have submitted by logging into your account and updating your profile information. Please note that copies of information that you have updated, modified or deleted may remain viewable in cached and archived pages of the App for a period of time.
What Choices Do I Have Regarding Use of My Personal Information?
We may send periodic promotional or informational emails to you. You may opt-out of such communications by following the opt-out instructions contained in the e-mail. Please note that it may take up to 10 business days for us to process opt-out requests. If you opt-out of receiving emails about recommendations or other information we think may interest you, we may still send you e-mails about your account or any Services you have requested or received from us.
Children Under 13
Our Services are not designed for children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete such information from our systems.

Changes to this Policy
This Policy is current as of the Effective Date set forth above. We may change this Policy from time to time, so please be sure to check back periodically. We will post any changes to this Policy on our website available through our App. If we make any changes to this Policy that materially affect our practices with regard to the personal information we have previously collected from you, we will endeavor to provide you with notice in advance of such change by highlighting the change on our website available through our App.
